South Atlantic Fishery Management Council

Public Hearing and Scoping Meetings 

The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council will hold a series of public hearing/scoping meetings and webinars between August 1 and August 17 to collect public input on proposed management measures for several species managed by the Council. See below for an overview.

Amendment documents/presentations will be posted on July 18, 2016.

Written comments are due by 5:00 PM on August 19, 2016.

 

SCOPING ITEM:

Dolphin Wahoo Amendment 10/Snapper Grouper Amendment 44

Dolphin and Yellowtail Snapper Allocation Measures

 

  The amendment is being presented during 

a scoping meeting via webinar on August 4, 2016 at 6pm. Potential actions include ways to shift allocation – either temporarily or permanently – from one sector to another for dolphin and yellowtail snapper; and separating the commercial dolphin sector Annual Catch Limit (ACL) into two gear-based sectors – a hook and line sector and a longline sector.

Mutton Snapper Measures


The amendment is being presented during a public hearing webinar on August 2 and public hearing meetings August 15-17 starting at 6:00 PM . Actions in the amendment include modifying the Annual Catch Limit (ACL); reducing the current recreational bag limit; establishing commercial trip limits; and increasing the current minimum size limit.

Coastal Migratory Pelagics Framework Amendment 4

Atlantic Cobia (GA to NY) Measures

 

The amendment is being presented during a public hearing webinar on August 1 and public hearing meetings August 3-11 starting at 6:00 PM. Actions in the amendment include reducing the bag limit; establishing a recreational vessel limit; modifying the recreational fishing year; increasing the recreational minimum size limit; modifying the current accountability measure; and changes to the commercial harvest limit.
